So finals are finally over for me. I have under-estimated the hardness of some finals due to the midterms but overall, some exams were easy. As I mentioned earlier in my blog, some classes that are taught in english are provided by Tech (Mexican University). I do not know if it is required for them, but there was no seating assignment at all for my classes that were taught by Mexican teacher. However, classes that were taught by Chinese professor, had a seating chart displayed on the overhead. On the bottom, it says the basics like No cheating is allowed. If classes are provided by tech, you can Wechat the TA (for me, it was Alex) for grades. Also, some professor will offer "Review Time" where you can make an appointment with them to review your grades before they turn it into Fudan. Make sure to make an appointment to double check your grades, once the Tech Professor submits to Fudan, they said they have no way to change it. Overall, study more and aim for the A. Do not underestimate the final exam like I did. At most 30% of the class will get A's, so if you deserve an A but you were not in the top 30% to recieve it, tough luck.
This semester really flew by fast. While in China, I have learned a lot about myself. From my roommate, I learned that I snore. Depending on my sleeping position, I can snore soft and loud. From my classmates, I learned that I am really blunt. Once they really got to know me, they learn that I do not hesitate to say what is on my mind. Me being blunt is only to those who I am really comfortable with. I also learned that I was really hestitant in speaking in Chinese when I first got to China. This was due to the fact that I am Chinese but I do not speak Chinese really well. As time was passing, I realized I probably was not going to see most of people that I am asking for help so I built up my confidence and started speaking more. It really help improve my speaking skill and it really help that I am surrounded by Chinese and can not really on English to get around. I did make some bad memory in China but I have No Regrets. If I have the chance to study abroad again, I will definitely take it. I won't let the bad memory overwhelm the good ones. I had a lot of fun and I have made new friends. This study abroad experience is the best and I will always cherish the experience. Final Exams are finally here. Unlike UH Manoa, where finals are after the last teaching day and we get some days off to study, Fudan final exams are all over the place. There is no week that is just dedicated to Finals. I have four Finals this week but I also have a class where it is still a teaching day for the professor. So this week, I have four finals and a presentation/paper due all within this week. Then for the following week, I only have one exam left and then I am done for this whole semester. I a. not looking forward to this week but I can not back down right now unless I want to fail my classes. I wish all of the Fudan international student luck on their Finals and all of Fudan students who are taking their exam in three weeks Good Luck.
June is the month of Finals Exam. It is also the month of finals projects due dates. All my classes has final exams while three out of five classes also has final projects due. This semster is going by quickly and I know I am going to miss Fudan University. It is time I start studying for for finals and finishing up my group final projects.
I know I will always remember China because China is the country where I got my first sprained ankle. I have not yet visited a doctor but will go tomorrow to get my ankle checked out since it is really swollen. I really hope that I have sprained it and that it is not a broken bone. I visited the zoo in Shanghai. It is so much bigger than Honolulu zoo. In order to get the zoo, it takes at least 2 hours by metro and then a three minute car ride from the metro station. They have different showings of feeding the animals and it is really cool. They also have a circus show once a day at 1 o'clock p.m. I also got to experience being in a car cage and going around the zoo to see the different animals up close and personal.
My midterms are finally over!!!!! This semster, my midterms are all bunch together for three days only. After my midterms were over, I had a group project that was due the week after that but before the project is due, there was a holiday.
Midterms are coming up!!!!! During registration, I should had known that midterms would be taken during the class time. If I had remembered then, I think I would have spaced out my classes. This semester, I have three midterms and they are back-to-back-to-back. My first exam will occur on Thursday, April 26 at 6:30 p.m. The second on Friday, April 27 at 9:55 a.m. and the third at 1:30 p.m. Out of all the midterms, I believe the first one on Thursday will be the hardest because she wants us to know word-for-word from her PPT. How do I know this? Cause she said it to the whole class and her quizzes are like that too. This is the first time in my life, where a teacher actually picked a sentence from the book, made it fill in blank, and expected the whole class to know it on her quiz. Now the quiz is 10 question, all fill in the blank, and based off of 10 Chapters in the books. An example question from her quiz is "The number of protestants in Latin America increased from roughly 7 million in 1960 to about ________ in ________." She expected us to remember the number of people and which year from 200 pages of reading. I know LING 105 self-study is read, take quiz, read, take quiz, but at least it is MULTIPLE CHOICE. Obviously the whole class didn't do so well on that quiz so it was omitted from our grade after we protested. I have a lot of studying and memorizing to do from her PPT in order to do well in her midterm. :'( The second exam is for International Marketing. The professor said our exam ia in two parts. The first part is written exam for an hour based on the PPT we have been learning. The second part is building a survey on Qualtric (program we have learned to use) based on a situation that is given during the exam. This exam is using what we have learned and actually applying it for the midterm. My last midterm will occur after my International marketing exam. I am not really worried about this exam too. That class is Personal and Business Finance. The professor for this exam said we will get a sheet that has all the formulas that we have learned but no title for the formulas and no explaination on the variable that are used in the formulas. Of course, with the sheet of formulas, you will still need to know how to use it so I will have to study for it. This exam is kind of weird too. The professor said that Fudan requires us to do our exam in a black/blue pen. When I heard that statement, my first thought was "I don't have white-out." Good thing is that I am allowed to scratch my work out if it is wrong. I hope I pass all my exam with at least a B. Oh course, shooting for the A is my goal. It is officially April!!!! With the opening of Cherry blossom, I knew Spring has come in China. But, it is still cooooooooold!!!!!!! One day of the week in Shanghai is sunny so you think winter is over, but no. The very next day will be cold again. I enjoy cold weathers because it is easy to fall asleep in but it is not great when you have homeworks, project, and quizzes to study for and you can not stay awake and your hands are freezing.
In April, China has a holiday called ChingMing Festival. This year, it happened on the 5th, 6th, and 7th of April. During those days, people will go to their ancestors grave and clean it up. Holidays means no school since it falls on a weekday but in China, you make up what you miss on Sunday. Meaning, my Friday's classes were pushed back to Sunday. I do not understand the point of holiday if you have to make it up afterward but everybody in China got used to it already. During the holiday, it poured for one day. On that day, I went to Yuyuan Garden. It looks like the old days of China and it is really big with tons of people. The street foods are good but my friends and I found a place where the food didn't taste good at all and it was very expensive. There is a restaurant in Yuyuan garden that is really famous for it's dumpling. You know you are at the correct restaurant when you see a picture and a very long line. I recommend trying the dumpling if you ever come visit Shanghai. Like UH Manoa, Fudan gives you a period where you can add and drop classes after school has started. Be careful though, the last day to drop and the last day to add are DIFFERENT days. The last day to drop will come first which is a Saturday after the second week of school. The last day to add is a Monday in the third week of school ( only a two day difference).
The professors in Fudan comes from all different backgrounds and they have their different stories on why they are teaching at Fudan. Every teacher has different grading system depending on their department. My international finance teacher said his final exam has to be 60% of our final grade because that is required of his department. Through him, I confirmed that Fudan grading requirement is AT MOST 30% OF STUDENTS GETS AN A- AND UP. Meaning, if you have the lowest A in the class and everybody above you makes up 30% of the class, you will get a B even though you deserve the A. Another requirement is that you can not miss more than three days of class or you will fail the class. On another note, I got to visit the bund. It was super crowded and really cold but it was worth it. When I got there, I found out that the metro has a station there and that I didn't have to get off at Nanjing Road (huge shopping district) and walk to The Bund. Riding the metro is really easy. They have English on the bottom of every station, different color for different train lines, and a voice recorded automatic system telling what stop the train is at and what the next train stop is. You can either buy a ticket at the ticket machine (it has English too) or buy a metro card for 20RMB that is refundable if it is kept in good conditions. The cost of the ticket goes by distance. The further you go, the more you pay. I feel that the ticket is more of a hassle because you have to wait in line to buy a ticket, pick where you are going, and pay cash for the ticket all through the ticket machine. With the metro card, you just load money onto it, scan the card to pass through the gates, go to your destination, and scan the card again to get out of the station. The gate will automatically subtract money from the card. It is fast and efficient. |
